About the Brain

Both hemispheres of the human brain are divided into four parts: the frontal lobe, parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and occipital lobe. The prefrontal region (which makes up a large part of the frontal lobe) is the foundation of creativity, memory, communication, and self-control. Its role could be described as the control tower of the brain.

Human are born with almost all 100 billion neurons. The growth of connections between cells accounts for the growth of the brain after birth, changing throughout life. These connections (9150 trillion) reflect experience

Age and Development

As the brain develops, neural networks build creating the capacity to learn, influenced by external stimulii. Development is at its most dynamic and receptive in the early years of childhood, and capacity can degenerate in later life. The latest neuroscience research shows that the brain can be both trained and re-trained, not only in childhood but also later in life. Essential skills can be trained at an early age to provide solid foundations, accelerating learning. If problems occur with normal development, this can lead to learning difficulties which can have far reaching consequences and extend into adulthood. The brain can be retrained to help, or even cure these problems.
