What teachers are telling us about Phonomena...

"I have been using Phonomena for half a term with five children. The program was quick for me to set up and understand and required only a few minutes' instruction before children could use it independently. Children begin each afternoon session by logging on and playing; they remain focused for the whole session and require no staff intervention and very little supervision. They are aware that the program is automatically optimised for their individual needs and find this motivating - they even discuss their progress with each other at the end of the session. One child stated that she was sure her spelling was improving. It is very manageable and is an excellent use of ICT in the curriculum as it takes on a task that would be difficult for a teacher to carry out. I will be rolling out use of this program across the whole school after half term."

"Our SENCO is thrilled with the software !"

“My pupils loved playing Phonomena and volunteered for more. It had a remarkable effect on their literacy skills, which could only otherwise have been achieved by one to one tuition. For the first time, one of the boys explained how to spell two words (‘went’ and ‘really’) when someone else had misspelled them. Before the trial he wouldn’t have had the confidence.”

Teacher/Trial co-ordinator, Headington Primary School, Oxford.

“We’ve been using Phonomena continually since March [6 months]. It is excellent, we find it is very effective and the children like it. I use it with one boy who has a multitude of problems. Jane [Teaching Assistant] uses it with most of the children.”

Rosie Simpson, Cokethorpe School, Oxfordshire

“She says she can distinguish sounds in words more easily now and that she is finding learning her spellings easier. She has enjoyed using the programme and thinks it has done her a lot of good.”

Brian McCaldin, Teacher, Mainstream Education, Newquay Primary School

“I think it’s good. Reception aged children are not used to listening to sounds and for sounds. Phonomena is very helpful to get the children to listen to the differences”.

“One girl had a go and said 'Oh I’m playing a game for lessons'. She saw it as fun and as if she were cunningly getting out of school work, making it very appealing to her"
